Our client, a leading F100 biotech company with an impressive track record of success, is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager/Controller, supporting the Canadian commercial affiliate, to join their team. Bio/Pharma background is preferred.This socially responsible company offers a highly competitive compensation package.
  
This is a newly created role.  The Senior Accounting Manager will have responsibility for the integrity of the affiliate financials, and will report to the Associate Finance Director/Finance lead for the Canada affiliate.  The role will work closely with the Canada FP&A team and x-functionally across the Canada affiliate to support a business with industry leading therapies that has seen rapid growth over the past five years.

The role will have a dotted line reporting relationship to the North America Controllership organization based in Foster City, CA.  The successful remit of this role will require the development of effective partnership with functions and teams resident in Foster City including Controllership, Financial Shared Services, Internal Audit and Technical Accounting.   
 
The Senior Accounting Manager will be experienced in leading process changes and leveraging technology to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial processes.  The position requires the individual to have the ability to effectively multi-task, prioritize work, and demonstrate accountability.
 
Specific Responsibilities and Skills for Position:
  • Overall responsibility for providing timely, accurate, and comprehensive accounting, reconciliation, and reporting relating to  accruals, provisions, deferred rent, leases, allocations, reclassifications, etc.
  • Act as the local lead to ensure the integrity of the Canadian affiliate’s financial control framework, specifically ensuring continued compliance with SOX reporting requirements, and addressing all responses to Internal and External auditors.   
  • Interacts successfully with Controllership to lead quarter-end close activities, most specifically ensuring that Gross to Net revenue liabilities are accounted for appropriately
  • Liaise with partners in IT and Financial Reporting to leverage and/or implement enhanced and automated financial reporting.  In addition, partner with Market Access team to support the implementation of an automated rebate contract management tool.
  • Partner with FP&A and business partners to ensure the financial integrity of inputs to non-financial external reporting, such as PMPRB, HCP spend transparency reporting, etc. 
  • Partner with the Business Conduct colleagues in areas of shared responsibility to lead the Canadian organization to best practices such as T&E reporting.
  • Partner with Technical Accounting to ensure adherence with Revenue Recognition principles for all Canada revenue contracts.
  • Thorough review of journal entries, following up with requestors for any additional support or understandings if necessary. Ensure accrual balances are reviewed and supported. 
  • Review and approve monthly balance sheet account reconciliations per the assigned deadlines, ensuring that any reconciling items are cleared on a timely basis.
  • Ensure GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, finance policies (Controller’s Manual), and tax and legal requirements are followed.  
  • Support the FP&A and business on an ad-hoc basis through the budgeting/forecasting cycles.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, controls and systems to ensure process/policy changes are implemented, and transactions are properly accounted for.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and efficiencies, and drive solutions focusing on regional and global standardization.
  • Maintain a great working relationship with all business partners.   Provide accounting guidance and training to staff and business partners as required. Review accruals with FP&A business partners in advance of the quarter close.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • 10+ years of relevant experience and an accounting designation.   Completion of an MBA, CFA or other advanced business degree is desirable.
  • In depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting policies and procedures.
  • Experience in a comparable multi-national organization, with experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industry a plus.
  • Previous experience in an FP&A role(s), in addition to your deep accounting experience, is also desired.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and interact successfully with non-financial personnel.
  • Ability to build strong partnerships with key business stakeholders and work cross functionally.
  • Ability to identify and drive sustained process improvement, automation, solving complex problems.
  • Excellent communication skills, organization skills, multi-tasking and prioritizing skills.
  • Demonstrated technical, problem solving, and analytical skills. 
  • Ability to navigate complex processes involving multiple systems.
  • Working knowledge of Oracle R12 or similar integrated software product is necessary.
  • Ability to act independently, be self-motivated, and motivate others.
  • A highly collaborative style that works with all levels of leadership.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft tools (Outlook, Word, and Intermediate Excel) is required. 
  • Strong written, presentation and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, multi-national, changing environment, meeting deadlines in an accurate, detailed and timely manner.
  • Travel to the United States will be required approximately once per quarter for 2-3 days.
